GVP #50: The Pause Button

Welcome everyone to the 50th episode! When we started we wondered how far we'd get so it was exciting for us to hit record for our 50th.

This episode we had  a great time back in the studio as Evan has been traveling all summer. We of course covered a variety of random questions that we all relate to.

Sadly the big news of this episode is that we are hitting the Pause button on our podcast. I know, sad. Evan has graduated and is now looking for work opportunities. Our podcast has never been about making money but it does cost us time and money. With Evan's hunt for income we have decided we need to put this on hold. We'd love to continue and if it provided an income for him we would. But it's just not realistic at the moment.

We thank each and every one of you for joining us over the last 8 months. We have loved sharing with you and hearing such great feedback whenever we bump into one of you in person.

Much thanks, we love you all.

Welcome everyone to another great episode. We started by talking about "The Whistler" When you spend 8 plus hours a day at your work place it's tough to decide on whether to handle other peoples annoyances or find a way to just let it go.

What do kids collect today?

Hey, how much do you really trust online reviews?

Lastly Freedom asked Evan who he would write a thank you note to if he took the time to do so. Evan thought for a few moments and then was able to think of someone. The time it takes to send someone a thank you note is so small compared to the blessing it is to those who receive it. We would urge everyone to take some time this week and send one out. It's never a mistake.

GVP #48: Is Reality TV Harmful To Society (Feat. Allison Stuenzi)

Modern day phone call etiquette. Should we call or text and is there a rule to follow? Do you have to text someone first before calling them? No one calls anyone anymore. Are we losing out? Freedom started to rant but then got called out by Evan.

Do reality shows encourage or discourage dysfunction? When being outlandish is celebrated and is used to gain celebrity status are we sending the wrong message? Are we personally encouraging it if we tune in and watch?

We then turned our sights on Allison. She is one of the sweetest girls out there and as such is a wee bit gullible. We asked her to share a story of a time she was tricked. She had an amazing story to share! Wow!!! You gotta hear this one.

GVP #47: Restoring A Reputation

GVP #47: Restoring A Reputation

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

What words or phrases should be banished? Evan suggest the expression "on fleek" should be gone. Freedom never even knew it existed. Freedom suggest that "anyways" when used as a comma should be eradicated. Evan says it needs to stay for awhile.

The next question is when your significant other says they want to spend their special day relaxing, does that mean that you are free to do whatever you want or are you bound to be "on call" nearby?  This can be a tough one.

We ended with How can a reputation be restored? We all have moments that we're not proud of and would love to get a restart. Since there isn't an easy button to use what can we do to move towards restoration? Evan suggested making amends and then acting the way to want to be known and slowly over time you will change what you're known for.

GVP #46: Are Ghosts Real?

GVP #46: Are Ghosts Real?

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

SOOoooo..Do you believe in ghosts?  Freedom thought this would be a random thought but it fleshed out an honest to goodness ghost experience that Evan had. Wow! It's a must listen story. Talking about it it drifted in to stories of people who have passed and then come back. It's quite amazing and hard to comprehend truly.

Our next question is does reading a book count for more than if you listen to it? With the age of audible books, podcasts, etc is information being absorbed as good as it was when reading was the main information source. Thoughts?

GVP #45: Criticism & Survival

GVP #45: Criticism & Survival

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

Survival skills. Everything created has been given a skill it uses to survive. What survival skill do we have if any. What skill do you have? Do you know how to start a fire with 2 sticks or what to do if you're lost in the desert? Evan has many skills...all learned from watching TV..so he says.

Criticism. How well do you take criticism? For a bit of deeper conversation we jumped into this touchy subject. To learn and grow we need to be able take criticism from those who are trying to help or even worse someone who just says you'll never make it. How do you handle it? It's not easy as we all know but can be a true test of our pride.

On this topic there is also a responsibility to those who are trying to help. Just blurting out criticism isn't the best way to help anyone you care about. Freedom gives a great tip on how to present a "growth opportunity".

GVP #44: Lessons From The Appalachian Trail (W/ Dave & Joe Deitzer)

GVP #44: Lessons From The Appalachian Trail (W/ Dave & Joe Deitzer)

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

Welcome everyone to a great interview this week with the Deitzer's who are on a amazing adventure together hiking the A.P. from bottom to top. We had a chance to sit down with them at their halfway mark and get some great insights on lessons learned along the way.

These are the questions they answered:

  • What is the biggest thing that stands out thats different from civilization to woods?
  • What were you unprepared for?
  • What did you think would be harder?
  • what was the lowest moment?
  •  what was your mountain top high moment?
  • Joe,what is the biggest thing you’ve learned by observing your father?
  • Dave, what have you observed of your son ?

GVP #43: Suffering To Success

GVP #43: Suffering To Success

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

The first question had to do with car etiquette in regards to the passenger/driver relationship. We're naming no names but this is something we all know and have had to deal with. It lead into the next question which had to deal with which is bed time rules and who gets to control the TV, etc. Let us know what you think.

Music. Where do you go to find new music these days? These days we do everything on demand which means we play what we know. So how do you find new tunes?

We then jumped to a deep question. Does suffering make us stronger and lead us to success? Wow! None of us wants to suffer for sure but does it help? Evan and Freedom dug into this and ended with a very profound statement regarding how we should feel about suffering in tough times. This is a MUST LISTEN and pushes us for an attitude check.

GVP #42: An Honest Talk On Bullying

GVP #42: An Honest Talk On Bullying

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

Is using the word "outfit" enough to lose a man card over? Yep...this how we started this episode. Do men wear outfits or is that word more for children and women? Freedom believes that men wear shirts and pants but do not own outfits! Evan thinks otherwise and has called for an intervention to help Freedom.

We then jumped to the topic of pranks. We all love a good prank but at what point does it become bullying? Do you judge it by whether the victim is laughing or not? How do you tell? This pulled us into a conversation about bullying. It's such an important topic with varying views along generational lines. The old school way was to "buckle up" and take it which is hard to say whether it's wrong or right. Freedom was stumped on how to even talk about it without hurting someones feelings.

Evan took a moment to tell us about a time in his life that he felt bullied. An open conversation about how Freedom handled the situation ensued and Evan and Freedom talked openly as father and son. This episode is well worth the listen.

GVP #41: Say Something Without Saying Something

GVP #41: Say Something Without Saying Something

The first question of the day was about sunglasses. When someone wears their sunglasses inside what are they trying to say? Is this a non verbal communication that we are supposed to pick up on or does it mean nothing? We have our thoughts, how about you? We all do things to say something without saying anything. It's fun to observe.

Our next question is about sports teams and their names. What are your real thoughts on the renaming of the Washington Redskins and why not rename the Minnesota Vikings as well? Fodder for conversation.

GVP #40: Appropriate Age For A SmartPhone?

GVP #40: Appropriate Age For A SmartPhone?

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

What age is the correct age for a parent to give their child a smart phone? Yep..we start off this episode with a question that we all have pondered.

Why are students still carrying heavy textbooks with dated and limited resources within its covers?

Have you ever known a pet that stood out as an amazing animal? While Evan is making plans to be a dog-knapper, Freedom has no interest in being slowed down by another chore to take care of.

We then jumped to the question does the neighborhood you grew up in define who you are? Do you become a product of your environment? Your thoughts?

GVP #39: Sponsorship And Mom & Pop

GVP #39: Sponsorship And Mom & Pop

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

Do we, as in Generation Viewpoint, have influence?  This was the first question posed to start off this episode and we have no idea! Evan than went further and asked if podcasts and Youtube videos have influence on all of us? What do you think?

Evan then talked about how podcaster and YouTubers have product sponsors. Are we more likely to buy the product and what is the determining factor? Should they only recommend items that they truly believe in? Is there a difference between being sponsored by a product and actually recommending the item?

Mom & Pop biz. So we then launched into talking about why do we feel that we need to protect mom & pop businesses even if their model is out dated? Its a tricky question because we always root for the little guy who gives great service but at the same time modern days have allowed for more modern distribution of products. This can be a tricky question for us to navigate.

GVP #38: The Enfamil Vs Ensure Test (Feat. Allison Stuenzi)

GVP #38: The Enfamil Vs Ensure Test (Feat. Allison Stuenzi)

Welcome everyone! We touched on an important but touchy question. When do we or don't we acknowledge an injury, disability, etc? Do people want to be asked or do they want people to ignore it? Its a tough question because some want to be treated like nothing is different but yet they want to know people care. Tough one. Your thoughts? Leave them on our Facebook group.

Enfamil vs Ensure

We then did something we have never done before. A blind taste test for Allison and Evan to see if the youngest generation or the oldest generation has a more refined palet. You gotta see or watch this one. Lets just say we were all surprised by the results.

GVP #37: Flaws Allow For True Love

GVP #37: Flaws Allow For True Love

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

The "man drawer" was the next topic of conversation. It's the mandatory place to put all the stuff that isn't needed but must be saved. Every man needs his drawer or box. The test is do you have a Chucky Cheese game token in yours?

We drifted to what we collect which then led to a conversation from a Donald Miller book regarding being loved. The quote was, "my flaws will be the way that I receive grace". Very powerful to think that being loved or loving someone else includes the less than great aspects of the person. We usually think we love the good and ignore the bad but a true deep love embraces it all.

GVP #36: Privacy & Freddy On The Front Lines (Feat. Nigel Braun)

In this episode we get to hear one of Freedom's favorite pet stories ever! Nigel shared this great tale with us. It is a fantastic story from the front lines of our armed forces. You have got to listen to this one!!

We then went deep on the question on which is more important, personal privacy or national security? With Nigel's background in the military this was an interesting conversation. Freedom shared a story learned from his Grandfather many years ago that changed his view forever.

GVP #35: Most Embarrassing Moment

Freedom asked Evan what his favorite memory is of our first house that he was born and grew up in. The house was a severe fixer upper and it's funny that Evan's favorite part was the big hole that was in the upstairs hallway. Just goes to show it doesn't take much to make memories. It also inspired the question on why it is that men she a house that needs to repaired and paid for and women see a home and memories to be emotionally attached to? No clue.

Freedom the surprised Evan with the question of what was his most embarrassing moment. YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS!!  So funny. Best part is when he says, "...and I was in a predicament." HAhahaha!!!!

Evan then knew who he would have dinner with without hesitation. Who would it be you ask? Well Donald Miller of course!  So what would you talk about if you had a chance? That's not such an easy question to answer.

GVP #34: Tears & Self Talk

Hey everybody welcome back for another great episode! Today we started right into it with the observation that women have the advantage over men by using their tears. Freedom shares his observation

Freedom then asked Evan what has he learned from his entrepreneur adventures in the last 6 months. He answered immediately with"people will surprise you". He had great insight that we will turn down ourselves faster than others will. He observed that we are our worst enemy. Changing our positive self talk can change our outlook on life.

Evan and I both have a phrase that is stuck in our minds.  "Can I help?".  Let us know if we can.

GVP #33: Bees & Success

Freedom then shared with Evan something he learned recently about the impact of bees on fresh produce crops. Who knew they need a fatter bee right now to get us some yummy watermelon?!

We then hit a question. What traffic sign does your life look like right now? And then we jumped quickly to what does success look like. Freedom read a great paragraph he found. It broke down the basics of looking at how profit is made. Why is the key question to be asking. Not how.

GVP #32: First Names And A Time Limit On Apologizing

GVP #32: First Names And A Time Limit On Apologizing

** CLICK to LISTEN & VIEW **

BAM! This episode started out with Evan telling Freedom that he looked like a Ralph!! Can't really see it but Evan would have made a great a Haaken! Ever want to change your name? Seems to be a common thought when we're younger.

Freedom then asked Evan one of the most feared job interview questions. "Why should we hire you?"  This led to talking about being high on yourself and the "Me" monster.

Is there a time limit on apologizing? This could be controversial. What's your thought?
